ESSENTIAL FABRICS FOR IREMA

The choice of sustainable materials is a very important step, always searching for upcycling and organic ones. Join us on this exciting journey through textures and find out which are the essential fabrics for IREMA Slowfashion.

One of the key parts in our process of creation is the careful selection of the materials for our garments. That is the only way of getting unique clothes that tell a story of transparency in every moment, because environmental and social responsibility are central to everything we do. That is the reason we would like to show you which are the essential fabrics for IREMA.

#SUSTAINABLEFABRICS

On one hand, we produce garments using (GOTS) Global Organic Textile Standard and sustainable materials which are environmentally friendly. Why? Beause they are free of hazardous elements such as nickel, lead, formaldehyde, amines, pesticides and heavy metals. In addition, organic fabrics are delightful to the touch and have a wonderful scent without trails of chemicals. These are some of the essentials fabrics for IREMA:

  • GOTS or OEKO TEX. organic cotton in different compositions and kinds, like plush, velvet, brushed cotton and poplin.
  • 100% wool.
  • Organic hemp mixed with organic cotton.

Where do they come from?

We import these fabrics from providers in Germany, Austria and Portugal. In the case of cotton, most of the times, it is produced in Turkey; and the hemp comes from China, always from sustainable factories well cared and with GOTS certification.

#UPCYCLING

Furthermore, we work with upcycled scraps and deadstock fabrics to reduce industrial textile remains. How do we get them? First, visiting artisan’s studios and looking for traces left by professions that marked an age. But also touring free-markets to seek little treasures in form of cloths and other materials. Every piece of fabric, leather, tape, zipper and button with a story can be perfect to an IREMA’s piece.

When we work the upcycling technique, we use fabric samples, scraps and vintage material, like covers of old mattresses, antique silk ties, etc. For example, some of our winter ponchos (see picture above) got the front made by a patchwork of fabrics from ties that have been quilted and embroidered. A careful and delicate work.

In IREMA Slowfashion, we produce unique pieces that can hardly be repeated and we love to explain the story of every garment.

Today, we have talked about the materials we use, stay tuned to find out much more about our universe!
